Winx: The Boys

The Specialists

I simply adore this series. Besides the fact I liked the hero-fairy mix, for some reason I always liked that each of them had a boyfriend. I've spoken about this with my friends and there is no rational explanation.
I didn't feel identified by none of the girls, but Brandon and Riven were the guys I liked the most. I probably watched it when I was between 10 and 13 years old.
Nowadays, after awakening my fangirl again, I must say Stella resonates with and I no longer like Riven. Though "liking" was just physical back then. I mean... I had no idea of what was going on besides the fact that there were some hunks on the screen.

The heights and physiques are my idea of what they may look like. It's hard for me not to imagine all of them really fit, since they are always training with weapons and stuff.
In my mind Brandon and Riven are the most muscular, judging by how competitive they are. Sky too, but less "ripped". Then Helia, Nabu and Timmy with more lean bodies, since they don't use heavy weapons.
There's this amazing photo of bodies from different proffesional sportspeople here. To me sky would have the body of the javelin or water polo guy; Brandon and Riven like the skiing or basketball ones (looking at the first two rows); Helia, Timmy and Nabu like the decathlon or high jump men.

Sky

Weapon: Long sword styled phantoblade, a phantoshield and a hoverboard.
Fighting style: Swordsman and archer.
Skills: Fighting while riding a dragon(?)
Hobbies: Nothing. Being a blue prince.
Height: 182cm
Physique: Muscular.
Best friend: Brandon.
Personality: Generic rom-com boy.
Sky has a strong sense of duty (mostly to his kingdom, Eraklyon) that sometimes puts him at odds with others. Still, he's generally seen as a great leader and is very kind and quick to spring into action whenever someone needs help. However he's a jealous partner. In his relationship`with Bloom he becomes overprotective and possessive of her whenever he believes their relationship is threatened in any way. Yet he won't stand it when Bloom herself gets annoyed because of his relationship with Diaspo (some secondary villain). This is the worst-written relationship of the group.

Brandon

Weapon: Broadsword phantoblade and double bladed phantoblade.
Fighting style: Swordsman.
Skills: Martial arts, survival, maneuvering machinery and dragon riding
Hobbies: Climbing and working with engines (mostly with his motor bike).
Height: 168cm
Physique: Muscular.
Best friend: Sky.
Personality: Full of himself.
Brandon places a considerable amount of concern on his appearance. He's stylish, athletic, outdoorsy and a friendly teaser. He's also collected (although a bit of a worrywart) and rarely acts impulsively. Still, he can be brutally honest (at a lesser extent than Riven), especially when angered or disappointed. Still, he's also patient and will voice his opinions carefully in sensitive situations.
In his relationship with Stella he's a fun-loving, caring and a very gentle, kind spirited guy. Both of them flirt with others in several ocassions, yet they always maintain a solid relationship (there's some kind of dynamic that isn't mentioned out loud(?)).
My favourite of the six relationships. Random data: "As long as it doesn't mess up his clothes he's the only person who can beat Sky at sword fighting."

Helia

Weapon: Laser string glove.
Fighting style: Restraint and disarming.
Skills: Martial arts, lying and espionage.
Hobbies: Writing poetry and painting.
Height: 175cm
Physique: Lean.
Personality: Pacifist.
Helia is a witty deep thinker, and the most calm and encouraging of all the guys. Brandon described him as a pacifist, although he can still be daring at times and is not afraid to voice his thoughts.
Initially he's shy to express his feelings for Flora, but after breaking the ice he has always shown a lot of faith and trust for her. They both like romance and are very understanding with each other.
Random data: His favourite ice-cream flavor is strawberry, his favourite color is green and between the sea or the mountains he would choose mountains.

Timmy

Weapon: Phantogun, crossbow, random gadgets and sometimes a sword.
Fighting style: Swordsman.
Skills: Strategist, technician, feeling someone's magic and maneuvering battle ships and wind riders.
Hobbies: Programming, robotics, reading and more nerd stuff.
Height: 181cm
Physique: Slender.
Personality: Nerd.
Timmy's passion is technology and flying ships. He is sweet, shy and quite oblivious to flirting. Although he may seem coward at times, he's very levelheaded and represents the voice of reason in the Specialists. He dislikes arguments and is not very confrontational, but will snap when arguing is pointless.
He loves to be with Tecna, but becomes clumsy around her. At first they both struggled to communicate. They tend to connect sharing their inventions and nerd stuff (I've no other way to describe it).

Riven

Weapon: scimitar phantoblade and bolas.
Fighting style: Swordsman.
Skills: Dragon wrangling, stealth, lock picking and strategic planning.
Hobbies: Working on engines (same as Brandon), motorcycles and general mechanic-related stuff.
Height: 179cm
Physique: Muscular.
Best friend: Nabu.
Personality: Bitchy
Riven is the most impulsive, competitive, cynical and goal-oriented member of the Specialists (nothing good basically). He can be rather hot-headed, experiencing moments of envy and blind aggression; but he's also protective and caring.
At first he was arrogant and mean-spirited, which often put him at odds with the rest of the Winx and Specialists. However, he was also thin-skinned and sensitive to what people thought about him.
Despite his initially unfriendly attitude, Riven is shown to have a conscience early on. He can be reflective when not blinded by his anger and acknowledges disliking several things about himself. Eventually he becomes noticeably friendlier, more cooperative and more compassionate and relaxed. Yet remains a straightforward, blunt and vocal about his opinions.

When he first met Musa he was very elusive and basically didn't allow for her to come grow closer. At some point he confesses his feelings for her (great scene btw) and they start dating. They argue the most out of the 6 pairs, but as Riven gets a lil bit better he becomes more affectionate with Musa.
The good trait (so that he doesn't fall in the villain category): he's protective! now lets scratch all that bad stuff about this hunk of a guy, as Stella would say.

"Riven's initial wariness of people is believed to have originated from his mother, who abandoned him when he was younger (supposedly in pursuit of money). As a result, he has come to hate her. It seems he used to project those feelings of disdain and distrust unto others, which led to his difficulty with maintaining relationships in the beginning." This I got from the fan wiki. Idk how accurate it may be. Most of the stuff I put here comes from the wiki, plus some additions made by me and my interpretation of the show and comics.

I do think it's important to notice the difference between the Riven from the show and the one in the comics. In the show he gets a very subtle and poor growth, but in the comics they do him a little justice. Still, they didn't manage all of the character archs too well. The winx universe itself has a lot of potential. Musa, Tecna and Flora's stories are almost non-existent in the show, and the comics are a mix of adventures, not an organized story.

Nabu

Weapon: Staff.
Fighting style: Wizard.
Magical abilities: Flight, invisibility, duplication, teleportation, energy blasts and distinguishing clones.
Skills: Self defense.
Hobbies: Personality key-word: calm.
Height: 185cm
Physique: Lean.
Best friend: Riven.

Despite his isolated childhood, Nabu is very social, friendly and upbeat. He's also daring and intelligent (he rans away from home because he disapproved of the arranged marriage with Layla).
He's patient, kind, honest, understanding, rational and not a shy nor jealous person. Although he's shown to be somewhat naive at times (mostly in the comics).

For some reason all of them (except Nabu) had at least one scene to show off their torsos. Now everyone can appreciate their ring sized waists. Talk about skipping leg day.

Brandon
